uefa champions league predictions

The first set of Uefa Champions League group fixtures continue on Wednesday, as Paris Saint Germain prepare to play fantasy football on the continental stage with Lionel Messi now in tow.

Pep Guardiola kicks off his charge to go one better with last season’s UCL runners-up, Manchester City, in the same pool.

Liverpool, Atletico and Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also among the star-studded clubs making their competition entrance across the continent.

Group A

It’s a strike force, Paris Saint Germain, but not as we know it… and spare a thought for opponents Club Bruges as the curtain comes up on a sparkling Group A.

Lionel Messi is set for his Champions League reunion with Neymar, with Kylian Mbappe completing a frightening triumvirate for PSG as they make the short trip to Belgium.

Last season’s beaten finalists Manchester City don’t have it easy this time around, then.

Not least as they open their account at the Etihad Stadium against dark horses RB Leipzig, who also reached the knockout stage last time out following their controversial rise up the Bundesliga.

Group B

A congested Group B of the Champions League kicks off on Wednesday, with Liverpool playing under the Anfield lights against AC Milan.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are setting their sights on a seventh UCL title and start off against the famous Italian club making their return to the top table of European football.

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are also intent on recapturing their continental form, having capitulated to eventual winners Chelsea in last season’s Round of 16.

FC Porto, who were the Blues’ next victims in a closely-fought quarter-final, are the visitors to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Group C

Group C of this season’s Champions League takes the crown of ‘Pool of The Hipster’, including the return of 1995 champions Ajax.

The Dutch side mark their UCL comeback with a trip to Sporting Lisbon, who also return to the competition thanks to lifting the Portuguese Primeira Liga trophy at the end of last season.

Borussia Dortmund are also in attendance, stepping out of the shadow of Bayern Munich once more in continental competition.

They have a tasty visit to Istanbul in store as they open their account at Besiktas.

Group D

It’s a heavyweight clash to open up Group D of the UCL on Wednesday, as Inter Milan and Real Madrid square off at the first hurdle.

The reigning Italian champions and their La Liga opponents are both wrapped up in financial turmoil, as they plot their respective returns to European glory, starting at the San Siro.

A familiar tournament face in Shakhtar Donetsk also kick off their continental campaign.

And they do so with a visit to a brand new side, as Moldova’s Sheriff Tiraspol make their Champions League bow against the Ukrainians.
