22 Things we still want in The Sims 4

Things Still Wanted In The Sims 4 Base Game And Others

The Sims 4 turned six years old in September 2020. Much like the franchise’s 20th anniversary earlier in the year, the sixth birthday was somewhat understated.

This edition of the cult classic simulation game has been with us longer than any of its predecessors.

Things Missing Sims 4 Base Game

There have been many improvements made to the game since it was first released, but there are a few things missing from the base game and some of its expansions.

Different players wish for different things and there are undoubtedly some things we have left off this list – so please do not view this as the definitive wants for The Sims 4.

However, we have tried to make this wish list broad enough to catch a bit of everything across all the different playing styles. Nothing as extreme as imagining what Sims 4 worlds would be like if they were hit by a pandemic, just some basic bits to make the game a bit more…. complete.

Better thumbnails for gallery uploads

Depending on the lot you are building on in The Sims 4 or which angle you have set your build up, the automatic thumbnails that the gallery chooses for Sims 4 builds can sometimes ruin a whole build. This is something he team has said they are working on, though, so there is hope.

Edit apartments

The apartments that came with the Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle expansion attempted to allow for editing of parts of the exterior, but it was not possible in the end. To create or edit our own apartments in The Sims 4 would be a game-changer… not that sort of game changer.

Better way to upload to the gallery with rooms/pools

Pools technically count as rooms in The Sims 4, so if you build a deck with a pool included and upload it to the gallery, your pool will disappear. Not great.

Proper sectional sofas

Sure, you can create these by using the moveobjects cheat and refining the placing using ALT, but can we just have sofas that snap to create proper L shapes?

Create a world

We know, we know. It is probably unlikely that the ability to create a world will ever come to The Sims 4, but it would be amazing to build a world from scratch and design it exactly as we want it to be. Imagine if we could create the hidden world of Sylvan Glade as a magical wonderland for Sims to live in?

With so many new debug objects added to the game in the September patch, creating a world in The Sims 4 would actually by quite easy.

Better skin tones

Improving on the skin tones in The Sims 4 is something the team said would be addressed in the coming months. But we’re adding it to the list anyway.

Free the baby

Not at the top of our wishlist, but the creepy baby being an object thing in The Sims 4 is something many players have been asking for for years.

Matching gates

Seriously, why oh why are there so many walls that do not have gates match them? It is one of the biggest building bugbears.

Body hair

In the same category as skin tones. We have beards, can something be done about body hair in The Sims 4?

Burglar NPC

This is something else the team have said they are “constantly thinking about”. Burglars were a mainstay of the original Sims game, but six years down the line, they have still not appeared in The Sims 4.

Police NPC

This kind of goes hand in hand with the burglar NPC. While an active police career exists with The Sims 4: Get To Work expansion, it’s not quite the same as a cop showing up to catch a crook.

Grocery shopping

We have retail lots and we can create a fish market using only base game and debug objects. Can grocery stores become a thing?

House phone

Yeah, yeah, who still has those these days when everyone has mobile phones? Does it matter? The house phone is a Sims cult classic. Bring it back.

Cars and garages

Again, not at the top of our wishlist, but many Sims players have been asking for these for years. While there is some hope that cars might come to the Sims 4 soon, they would really add to the game play that came with the Eco Living expansion pack.

Newspaper and paper delivery person

A newspaper delivered by the kids in the morning before school would be amazing. Print is not dead, long live the paper.

Spiral stairs

The Sims 4 team have addressed the challenges with spiral stairs and we understand that. In 2019, we did get configurable stairs added to the game, which made stairs a little bit more fun. But oh, for a spiral case to take us up to our ivory tower.

Ability to create rentals in all worlds

There are mods that allow for this, but if you want your Sims to go on holiday to Sulani, they should be able to. On the bright side, at least Sims can now elope to vacation worlds after the September patch.

Fewer bulky objects

We have spoken about this in a previous post about some of the most annoying things about The Sims 4. Why is everything so massive? Is asking for a regular size telescope or smaller coffee tables too much?

Pond tool

Yes, we can technically make ponds using the base game and debug objects, without the need for custom content. But we just want ponds that Sims won’t try to swim in because they are actually pools.

Pizza recipe

We can order pizza, but why can we not make it in a pizza oven, perhaps with ingredients foraged that might lead to some interesting side effects if the mushrooms are not meant to be eaten.

Basic diving board

Again with the giant objects thing. Can we just have a simple diving board for the Sims 4 base game, please?

Bug fixes

All of the bug fixes. So many. No, not the grubs. The grubs are fine. The game play bugs.

Bonus wish: Living in vacation worlds

This kind of also falls under the rentals in all worlds thing, but while frolicking around in Granite Falls, we longed for the ability to live there. Sure, Zerbu’s mod let’s you change the entire vacation world to being residential, but we just want to change one lot. Also, it’s a mod. We are wishing for included in the package things here.
