Sims 4 new expansion pack theory: Winter vacation

Sims 4 Winter World Expansion Theory

Updated on 19 October 2020: The Sims 4 revealed that the game’s next expansion pack will be called Snow Escape – turns out the hints weren’t early at all. Read more about the next Sims 4 Snow Escape expansion pack here.

New day, new theory. Remember, as with all of these posts, they are purely speculation and nothing has been confirmed by EA? until it has, obviously. We do try and make a comprehensive case for all of these speculation posts, but you should be aware that they are just that. Please, no drama llamas.

Last week, The Sims 4 team said that an announcement on the game’s next expansion pack will be made in ?just a matter of weeks?. We do not know what that expansion might be yet, but we do know what it won?t be.

The Sims 4 Winter World Snow Resort Hints

The Sims 4 team made it clear that cars, updated babies ? free from their cribs, and bunk beds would not be part of the game’s next expansion pack.

We already looked at the (most probably fake) Murder in the Manor ?leak?, but we highly doubt that will actually be a thing.

What might the next Sims 4 expansion pack be, then? We have a theory. Well, we have several, but we?ll start with this one.

One part that stood out from the statement from the Sims 4 team about upcoming content is that this expansion pack has been in the works since last year. So while the more recent surveys might have helped refine the concept, the expansion is most likely going to be something that has been part of a Sims 4 future content survey in the past.

Sims 4 expansion pack 10: Winter vacation theory

We know that past surveys are sometimes an indication of upcoming content. Sometimes what was originally pitched as a stuff pack goes on to become an expansion pack and so on.

Over the years since The Sims 4 launched, there have been several surveys with recurring themes. One theme that has repeated itself quite often is a winter vacation. In fact, earlier this year it also popped up in a general survey about new worlds.

We also know that there has been a heavy Alpine aesthetic in new content released over the last few months. The Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack even featured an elder reminiscing about snow activities that do not currently exist.

Sims 4 surveys about winter worlds

In 2017, winter vacation was put forward as a possible expansion option. Some of the features suggested in that pack read as follows (taken from the survey):

Winter’s cold has arrived and it’s time to take your Sims for a wintery vacation in The Sims 4 Winter Vacation. Choose your favourite winter accommodations then venture outside to build a snowman and have a snowball fight. Go snowboarding and compete for medals or take a leisurely stroll through the mountains to see what you can uncover.

Choose your lodging: Settle into your winter escape my choose to rent a snowy winter cabin, a family-friendly vacation home or live it up in a hotel complete with room service.

Play in the snow: Take your Sims out to enjoy the snow. Build a snowman and make snow angles or challenge your friends to a snowball fight.

Go snowboarding: Take to the half-pipe and show off your snowboarding skills. Sign up for the snowboarding competitions to go for gold and earn prizes.

Explore the mountain: Strap on your snowshoes for a relaxing stroll through the snow-covered mountains. Follow animal tracks, discover caves and maybe come across the rumoured snow yeti

Some of these features were already added through Seasons, so any winter-vacation type pack would have to offer something quite different. This is especially true so that players who bought Seasons do not feel ripped off.

Another old survey about winter – which sort of became seasons

Speaking of seasons and players not feeling ripped off… back in 2015 there was a survey about weather in the game – not all of these elements came with seasons, though. As take from that survey:

Head to Mt. Wright for fun winter getaway with ice skating, sledding, and snowboarding, and mysterious ice caves. Or head to Isla Cordinda to soak up the sun and build sand castles, surf the waves, and uncover ancient tombs.

It’s time to take your Sims on vacation!
Head to one of two new exciting locations with unique activities and weather.
Travel to the peaks of Mt. Wright for some winter fun where you can go ice skating, sledding, snowboarding, and explore the mysterious ice caves.
Or head to Isla Cordinda to soak up the sun, build sand castles, surf the waves, and uncover through the ancient tombs.

  • Summer Vacation: Experience the best of summer at an island getaway, with sand castles, surfing, and delicious island food and drinks.
  • Winter Getaway: Enjoy a winter wonderland with a snowy mountain vacation. Go snowboarding, sledding, make snowmen, or hit the lake for some ice skating!
  • Explore Ancient Locations: Explore ancient tombs in the jungle, or beautiful ice caves in the [… missing part …] avoiding deadly traps and yetis.
  • Winter & Summer Seasons: Bring the weather home with you. Experience the warm days of summer or magical snowfall in your home town!

Obviously not all of this is relevant – but the winter vacation cropped up all the way back when the idea of weather was first floated.
