Sims 4: Still Redacted Guru sparks new update patch speculation

Sims 4 Still Redacted Guru Frost Birthday Update

Last week, before the Sims 4 announced the new Star Wars game pack, the game’s global community manager changed their Twitter name to “REDACTED” Guru Frost.

The reference to redacted is a long-running reference amongst Simmers which is used to indicate that something is afoot. Guru Frost usually changes his name to something in line with the whichever pack is about to be released.

For example, when the Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack was released, he became Yarn Guru Frost.

The name change last week was thought to relate to the announcement of the new Sims 4 game pack. But after Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu was announced and the trailer dropped at Gamescom, Guru Frost did not “unredact” whatever was redacted.

As pointed out by YouTuber Iron Seagull, this could very well just be because Sim Guru Frost is still deciding whether he will be siding with the dark side or not in the new Sims 4 game pack.

But other Simmers have been wondering if this could perhaps refer to a new Sims 4 update coming with the pre-pack patch.

The Sims 4 base game always gets a new update prior to the release of a new pack. In some cases, as happened with the release of the Eco Lifestyle expansion early in the year, that update can bring fundamental changes to the base game.

In June, The Sims 4 update included changes to build mode and household inventories as well as the addition of ladders and the return of firefighters.

While all players already expected a new update for The Sims 4 ahead of the Star Wars release, as we noted before, The Sims 4 will celebrate its sixth birthday this week.

Earlier this year,  the 20th anniversary of the Sims franchise as a whole ended in a rather dull disappointment with a mere hot tub added as a way to mark the occasion.

However, in 2019, The Sims 4 game update added configurable stairs to the game. It was not quite the spiral stairs many players have been asking for, but it still added a lot of fun to build mode.

There is a long list of things Simmers have been wishing for in the base game – we looked at 22 things we would like to see in The Sims 4 in another article.

Nobody dares get their hopes up for whatever free update The Sims 4 might or might not be getting, though. It has been a year of mixed results and divided opinion for the game. Whatever is coming, though, it surely cannot be as disappointing as the hot tub, can it? We’ll have to wait to find out, we guess.
