It’s official. The new Sims 4 game pack will be called Star Wars: Journey to Batuu. The pack will be released on 8 September 2020. While the official description does not give much away in terms of what to expect from the game play, the trailer did show some interesting bits and pieces.
While the game play itself, at this point anyway, seems rather underwhelming (we said the same thing about the Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle, which turned out to be really good pack – bugs aside), the world itself does look pretty amazing.
The characters are… well… Star Wars-ey which is neither here nor there if you are not a massive follower of the franchise… or not a follower at all.
But one thing we did notice is it appears space ships will arrive before cars in The Sims 4. You can hear us rolling our eyes here.
The announcement did not come as a surprise. Ever since the new game pack icon was leaked over three weeks ago – and an eagle-eyed Simmer spotted the similarities of the icon and Batuu world, it was quite obvious that this was going to be a Sims/Star Wars crossover.
It’s probably best to reserve judgement until we have given this pack a whirl, but at first glance, it feels quite… alienating. No pun intended.
While it obviously makes sense for EA to do a crossover considering the ownership of the rights and just how astronomical (not sorry) the Star Wars franchise is…to do a whole Sims 4 game pack on the theme is a bit, well, meh.
And we’ll be honest and admit that we were very much in camp Norse Mythology or Vikings (unlikely as we knew it was), it is not clear what, if any, replayability the pack will bring.
What we will say though is LOOK AT THAT WORLD AND ALL THE DEBUG OBJECTS. Oh and if you thought the townies and their random wrestler outfits were bad… well… who knows what fresh hell this pack might unleash.
We’ll leave the raised eyebrow and tea-sipping about that robot which looks a heck of a lot like the robots from Discover University and the nyaah nyaah nyaah about recycling assets for another day.
