Update: The Sims 4 Spa Day refresh patch is now live with full details of the patch notes to follow as soon as they are available.

It only took seven years, but The Sims 4 base game will add nails as part of an update this week.

Both fingernails and toenails will be added as accessories in Create-a-Sim, with a variety of swatches included for the base game.

Nails and fingernails added to Create-a-Sim as seen during a live stream ahead of the Spa Day refresh.

These additions will set the foundation for a substantial update to The Sims 4 Spa Day Game Pack. A so-called ?pack refresh? will give the existing DLC an overhaul, adding new gameplay options like integration for child Sims and a new trait.

While this has given rise to speculation about the possibility of a werewolves pack coming to The Sims 4 in the near future, that’s a discussion for another day.

September’s update for The Sims 4 has the potential to cause some chaos for players who use mods and custom content.

It is not clear if this update would include bug fixes as monthly updates usually do ? and especially considering that August 2021 featured a solitary fix ? but we do know that nails will be added.

Players know the drill by now: when it comes to Sims 4 updates, backing up your saves and other files is crucial ahead of an update.

That becomes even more relevant for patches that change the framework of The Sims 4 base game.

There are a few things you can do to prepare for a big update, there’s a slightly longer version of this post over here (published prior to the Eco Lifestyle patch), but we?ll give you a quick TL:DR.

  1. Back up your Sims 4 save files and all your other files.
  2. Turn off automatic game updates.
  3. Start a ?vanilla? save that you can use after the update to slowly test whether everything is working.
  4. Remove your mods and CC folder before starting up your game after the update.
  5. Don?t add back any script mods until they have been confirmed as working or they have been updated.
  6. Slowly add back CC ? unless you are 100% certain they have been reported as working or you have updated your files.

Remember to turn mods and CC on after The Sims 4 updates

If you?ve updated The Sims 4 and you aren?t seeing your mods or CC appear, make sure you have turned them back on. To do this, go to game options after you have loaded your game and check that script mods and custom content has been enabled. You can find those settings as indicated in the screenshot below.

Release time for The Sims 4 September 2021 update

The base game update  and the Spa Day refresh will be released on 7 September 2021. The exact time of the patch was not confirmed at the time of writing, however, updates usually release around 19:00 SAST (that’s 10:00 Pacific Time or +2 GMT).
