Africa Cup of Nations predictions, standings, fixtures and results: Friday 14 January 2022

afcon predictions day six 2022

It’s time for the winners and losers of Groups B and C at the Africa Cup of Nations to step out for the second time in Cameroon on Friday, following a cagey opening to both pools earlier in the week.

All four matches between the two groups were decided by the only goal as Senegal, Guinea, Morocco and Gabon made winning starts to the tournament.

Group B: Senegal vs Guinea

Senegal need to step it up a gear or two as they target qualification from Group B at the Africa Cup of Nations against Guinea on Friday.

Sadio Mane was the 97th-minute hero for the Lions of Teranga, who squeaked past Zimbabwe thanks only to an injury time penalty on Monday.

A pre-tournament Covid-19 outbreak did nothing to help the beaten 2019 finalists, who will nevertheless sail through to the Round of 16 if they can put three more points on the board in Bafoussam against their fellow winners from the first round of action.

Kick off at 15:00.

Group B: Malawi vs Zimbabwe

The bottom half of Group B sees Malawi go up against Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday in Bafoussam.

Both nations can count themselves unfortunate to have come away pointless from their spirited displays against Guinea and Senegal respectively.

Conceding an injury time penalty to Sadio Mane and his tournament favourites was particularly cruel on the Warriors.

But if either side can snaffle three points here they will be confident of sneaking into the knockouts, with the four best third-placed finishers heading to the last 16 in Cameroon.

Kick off at 18:00.

Group C: Morocco vs Comoros

Knockout qualification will be the reward for Morocco if they can make it back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations Group C victories when they meet the Comoros Islands on Friday.

The Atlas Lions made the dream start in Cameroon on Monday when Sofiane Boufal popped up in the 83rd minute to clinch victory over Ghana by the only goal.

They now face the underdogs who pushed hard for no gain against depleted Gabon, albeit with minimal attacking threat and certainly nothing to frighten their Moroccan opponents.

Kick off at 18:00.

Group C: Gabon vs Ghana

The time is now if Ghana are to make serious inroads into the Africa Cup of Nations, as they go up against Gabon in Group C on Friday.

Late defeat to Morocco has left the Black Stars playing catch-up in a tricky pool, with plenty now riding on their tussle with the nation from across the Gulf of Guinea.

English Premier League star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was among the Covid casualties as the Brazilians squeaked past pool minnows Comoros.

Kick off at 21:00.
